MilliCam: David Milliband Introduces the Carbon Calculators.
Two videos from David Miliband, both introducing the new Carbon Calculator. From talking to people while campaigning, the Carbon Calculator is a very necessary tool. Most of us simply do not know our emissions (the public and suprisingly campaigners too).
Hopefully this will go some way to solving the 'I recycle, i am doing my bit' problem, where people say that by doing their recycling they relinquish all other responsibility for the environment, stating that 'recycling is enough'.
By knowing where you are doing badly, you can bring about action to correct it. For the average Brit it enables them to start cutting CO2, by identifying the biggest excesses in their own lives. If you log onto the climate calculator, and see that 50% of your emissions are from flying, then you know that you need to do something about it.
The only way i would perhaps extend the calculator, is in allowing people to compare themselves to other countries, particularly America, China, India and the Global Average. By comparing yourselves to others, you can pretty quickly understand that if the entire world emitted as much as we do, things would be getting hotter, quicker.
